It’s September!! So its officially time to break out Pumpkin Spiced EVERYTHING! But with all the additives and preservatives in the store bought brands, lets make this Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice, with my special ingredient. That way we can feel good about spicing up our Autumn life!

Typically, just as I’m ready for cooler days, crisp leaves and sweaters, the UK gets a mini heatwave!!

I don’t care! It’s officially Autumn here in the UK and heatwave or no, it’s time to break out the Pumpkin Spiced EVERYTHING!!!!

Would you believe it’s not actually that big a trend in the UK! However, I do love me a bit of cinnamon and spice, so I gave it a try… and I’m blown away by it!

I did have to add a special ingredient to it though…

Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice – With extra warmth

If you like Pumpkin spice, it’s not rocket science to make your own, but why might you want to, when you can buy it ready made?

Well, as with most things around here, I’d much rather make my own, so I know what ingredients are going into it. (like my Simple Homemade Taco Seasoning..)

I don’t know about you, but anti caking agents, preservatives and dyes are not on my menu!

I’ll tell you what are though.. Warming pumpkin lattes, pumpkin spiced oatmeal and pumpkin muffins to go with the pumpkin pie!

As you’ll note, mostly sweet things…

So here’s my secret ingredient…. All the normal stuff; Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg, Clove and….brown sugar!

I have tried the spice mixes out there and they all lack that one thing to me.. sweetness! I want to enjoy the flavour, but it conjures up the smell of baking. The sweet pie in the oven… The sweet oatmeal bubbling on the stove.

I also mainly drink my coffee black and straight so a bit of sweetness with the spices helps, you know?

Do You need me to tell you..?

I guess this really doesn’t constitute a recipe when it is simply 5 ingredients in a jar and shake to mix, right?

However, I would always put more Cinnamon in than everything else, so here’s my ratio:

3 Tbsp Cinnamon

1 Tbsp Brown Sugar

2 tsp Ginger

2 tsp Nutmeg

1 tsp Ground Cloves

There you have, in my opinion, a beautifully sweet spiced mixture that can ‘Autumn’ up any sweet treat or drink.

I know I’m no expert, but what do you think? What’s your favourite way to use Pumpkin spice? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, friend x
