I think it’s time I was honest with you… We’re getting to be friends now and I think I can tell you my secret…. shhh….I don’t really like pizza that much…
I know! I confessed to you my brownie indifference, and now I’m coming clean on my pizza aversion! My husband is baffled on both counts, but thankfully it wasn’t enough to put him off me completely.
I cannot STAND frozen pizza and have to really fancy takeaway, so that doesn’t happen much… It’s the super cheesiness that usually puts me off. And the boring dough base.
However…
As a compromise to my pizza loving family though, I CAN stand my homemade pizza dough recipe.
As part of our Simple Swaps Series, I have to share with you the pizza dough that I make to ensure my family don’t mutiny and mama doesn’t starve!
We have come to a happy arrangement where I eat it more than I’d like, and they eat it less than they’d like, but we can all manage it about every 3 weeks. (I’m pretty sure they’d eat it at least 3 times a week, if I’d make it..)
Why You’ll love this Easy Pizza Dough Recipe
If you’re still talking to me after my shocking confession…. believe me when I say I’ve made this recipe for about 15 years now and it has NEVER gone wrong.
- It’s easy and quick
- It can be customised with your own seasonings
- It’s soft on the inside but crunchy on the outside.
- Because it’s easy, it can quickly be doubled or tripled if needed
- As I said, it’s never gone wrong for me, so I’d go as far as to say it’s fool proof
What you’ll need
A mixing bowl or stand mixer
Measuring cups and spoons – As ever, these are my favourite. I use them every single day, I have 2 sets!
Oven trays
Pizza Chopper – Optional, but it’s AMAZING
Ingredients
Dry active yeast
Warm water
Sugar
Salt
Oil or butter
Seasonings – Onion granules, Garlic granules, oregano, thyme or add your favourite
Bread/All purpose flour
Method
- Put the yeast, oil, sugar, warm water and seasonings into a bowl and set aside somewhere warm to bloom for about 5 mins.
- When the yeast has bloomed, add the flour and knead in a stand mixer, or by hand until the dough is smooth and stretchy.
- Set the dough aside to proof in a warm place for about an hr, or until doubled in size.
- Once it’s doubled, punch it down and roll out to the required size. I make 2 pizza’s from this dough but it could be used for one large one.
- Top with your favourite toppings – we used my homemade peach bbq sauce for the base, topped with taco mince, peppers, and chedder cheese.
- Bake and enjoy!
- Note, The dough can be frozen after the kneading stage. Freeze in a zip-lock bag for up to 6 months. To use, thaw on the counter until pliable, then let rise a little and use as normal.
It’s really that simple! I hope you enjoy this as much as my family do, and if a pizza-phobe enjoys it, you know it must be good!! (please can we still be friends…?)
Tell me something you hate that everyone else loves! And as ever, if you like this post, please share. Thanks friends x
