Today is National Smoothie Day, so there is no better time to break out the blender, and have a go at these top 3 delicious summer smoothie recipes 2023!
I love a good smoothie! For a girl who didn’t eat breakfast for a long time, they’re a great way to get a meal in during the summer without having to face a meal, if you know what I mean!!
Smoothies get a bad rap for being calorific and they absolutely can be, but given the right combination of ingredients, they can actually be very nutritious. Just remember they are a meal in themselves, and not a side dish or drink!
So since it’s National Smoothie Day today, I though we’d take a look at our top 3 delicious summer smoothie recipes so far in 2023!

Easy Healthy Summer Smoothie Recipe- Blueberry Spinach Coconut smoothie
A antioxidant powerhouse, this is a great healthy smoothie! Packed full of some of the most nutritious food, It’s super tasty (despite the slightly funny colour the spinach turns it if it sits…) This is also a great way to get your kids eating more greens, when you include it in this delicious sweet treat.
Enjoy for breakfast, or even freeze into Smoothie Popsicles! (side note; popsicles always need to be sweeter than you think before they’re frozen, because they lose some of the sweetness during the process)

This smoothie uses frozen fruit and so turns into almost an ice cream bowl! It feels like you’re drinking a creamy slushy!! Needless to say my kids love this one and it tastes just like Fruit Salad sweets!!
I always have frozen fruit in the freezer too for Kombucha fermenting, so this is quick and easy to prepare.

FAQs – Top 3 delicious summer smoothie recipes 2023
What is the healthiest liquid to put in a smoothie?
Milk or water would be the healthiest liquid to put in a smoothie. I am really not a fan of so called plant ‘milks’, as they are known hormone disruptors so sticking to milk or water to thin the smoothie would be best.
What is the best base for a smoothie?
Banana is a great base, as is avocado, and natural yoghurt. These can then be flavoured with the fruit and vegetables you like or want to include.
What should I put in my smoothie first?
Putting in the liquids first will help the blender to combine the ingredients better and more quickly.
Do I need to put ice in my smoothie?
It’s not NECESSARY to put ice in a smoothie, but can make for a nicer end result, depending on your ingredients. I tend to use a lot of frozen berries/bananas so don’t tend to need them, but if you’re using all fresh ingredients, then by all means throw some in.
Are smoothies OK to drink the next day?
Absolutely! Many people make smoothies the night before and store in the fridge for the next day. Some natural separation will occur, but give it a good shake and it will be good. Usually it’s best to try to consume within 24 hrs for the maximum health benefits.
Can you freeze a smoothie for later?
Yes! If you know you won’t be drinking it right away, you could place it in a zip lock back, flat in your freezer. Placing it flat means it will thaw much faster when you come to use it. If you have a vacuum sealer you could seal it that way too. It should keep for up to a month this way.
